Since 2015, I’ve worked at Northern Virginia Community College with the American Culture and Language Institute. I have taught reading, writing, speaking, and listening in both full-time and part-time English programs. In addition, I teach classes that focus on current events, workplace English, business communication, digital literacy, and computer skills. Another role I fill is that of an assessor helping to place students in the right level for their English classes, and I have hosted 12 student teachers in training since 2017. Moreover, I’ve created and led several specialized English courses based on federal plain language guidelines for different organizations, including:

  • I taught English Skills for the Prince William County Police Academy.
  • I taught Workforce English for Experimental Pathology Laboratories, a privately-held, employee-owned Contract Research Organization.
  • At BAE Systems in Manassas, Virginia, I led a Workplace English course in 2019.
  • In 2018, I taught technical and business writing to visiting professionals from the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES).

Earlier in my career, I spent a year (2001–2002) teaching spoken and written English at the University of Jinan in China. Before that, while in college at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, I worked as a tutor in Art History and Spanish.

I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, with a minor in German, from Edinboro University, where I graduated cum laude. I’m also a member of Phi Sigma Iota, a foreign language honor society. In 2015, I completed the TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) program at Northern Virginia Community College.

In addition to teaching, I currently work with Hummingbird Communications as a Writer and Communications Specialist. In this role, I research, write, and edit blog articles for different companies, with a focus on holistic, multicultural awareness and insight.

Also,  I have worked in several leadership positions. Some of the duties in these roles included training new employees, leading professional development programs, and writing an organizational newsletter, “Quality in Focus”. Some of the leadership programs I designed and taught included an introduction to “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey, “Good to Great” by Jim Collins, and goal-setting workshops.

When I hear it, I forget it
When I see it, I remember it
When I do it, I know it
